YouTube needs to find a way to fix this, because it makes the video creation process so much more tedious. It wasn't enough for me to remove the stars When I brightened the environment, the quality improved dramatically. I've discovered YouTube loves compressing dark shades, blurring and smudging colors the closer they approach total darkness. Also, if you can, avoid making everything dark. Having many small detailed objects will break your video, especially if the tiny objects move. By this same logic, avoid snow, glitter, confetti, etc when possible. I've discovered you shouldn't put too many stars in the sky. On my first attempt on my most recent video, which is a Star Wars animation with a dark environment and many stars, it looks horrendous, especially when the camera moves. My channel has the vp9 codec, but YouTube still screws me over on video compression despite this. I'd like to offer additional insight here. Thanks for the info! I didn't know it was possible to check this, and I didn't know 4k videos enabled better codecs.
